Advertising and sponsorship

No vendor pays us. The site has no affiliate links, no sponsored placements, no ads and no paid listings. Every product appears because it meets the written criteria for its category, which themethodology page explains.

How we expect to earn money

We plan to charge vendors for tools and services: claimed and maintained profiles, lead requests that a buyer sends to a vendor, labelled sponsored placements, ad slots and licences to display badges a product has earned. We may also earn affiliate commissions. Nothing on this list has started.

Rules that apply from the first payment

• Payment never changes a product's score, its position in the ranked list or whether it is listed.
• Sponsored products sit in a separate block marked "Sponsored", with a short explanation of what that means. They are never mixed into the ranked list.
• Ads are marked "Ad" next to the ad itself, not only at the bottom of the page.
• A link that earns us a commission carries the words "Affiliate link: we earn a commission if you buy" next to it, before you click.
• Each category page names every vendor on the page that pays us, and what it pays for. The count on thetransparency page comes from the same data.
• Badges and awards come from published criteria that anyone can check. A vendor can pay to display a badge it earned. It cannot pay to earn one.
• Lead requests are sent only to the vendor you choose, after you agree to that on the form. We do not pass your details to anyone you did not pick.
• We do not accept payment for reviews, or for a particular rating.
